Travel Time...

This is a computers assignment. We had to create a "bad music video". I decided to use Owen Pallet's song Many Lives 49MP. I am absolutely in love with this man and his music... sooo good. Anyways, it is stop motion. And I apologize for how shaky everything is... I used two different cameras because of battery mix ups. I like the concept... over the summer I may re-do it and add more polaroids. 

"Double Tank"...

So here is my Tank Man Photo edited for the mosaic project in Computers. I wanted to keep it looking sort of simple so I just scanned in a bunch of swatches I painted, arranged them in a mosaic pattern, and drew over them in photoshop with the pencil tool. All the photos from my classmates will then be arranged and re-arranged to match up with each others.

Tank Man...

For computer class we were asked to write a paper in response to the 2oth anniversary of Tank Man who was part of the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. Sam then asked us to put a brief summary on our blog... We are centering our next project around the iconic image.

I remember exactly where I was on September 11, 2001. Sitting in music class at Holy Name of Jesus school. I was in the sixth grade. It was cloudy out. Sister Rita knocked on the door to the music trailer early.  We still had over half the class left, but were dismissed from music early and went back to homeroom. The television was turned on and we watched reruns of one of the planes crashing into the second tower. Looking back on it, I do not think I could have imagined the impact one singular event could have on a person let alone an entire population.

            Twenty years ago a similar incident occurred that would change the way people perceive freedom. Redefining human rights, bravery, and and the idea that all it takes is one voice.  Not to mention that it would all stem from a country where most of the rest of the world would least expect, China. On June 5, 1989 several military tanks would be stopped by a lone man holding two small plastic bags.  The man refused to let military forces enter the square filled with protestors and with it refused to give up. The photos taken of this brief moment in time would stand as a testament to the bravery and impact one person can have. Not to mention the power behind the idea that it can be relived and retold through a singular image.

Picture This...

Ok--I know it's cheesy. But I originally wanted the portraits to just stand alone. Next to each other, but during an in progress critic they thought I should put it in some sort of context. I was going to do a yearbook (too much work), a play bill came up (none of these friends act), and a sketchbook seemed like a last resort. So I thought about it, and I figured a cork board was at least a step above a sketchbook. All done in photoshop.

Can't Stay the Same...

So you may remember a few of these portraits from my Rainbow Connection series. Well, I reused some of the original sketches in my new computer project that utilizes photoshop. And let me just reiterate--I don't know how graphic design majors do it?! They must have the most patience ever. Anyways, I scanned the sketches in. Used various colors in the pen tool. Scanned in paintings for the background, used picture's of Brielle's actual hair, and actual yarn I knit.

Cheeky...

Computers Assignment! And with it, yet another all nighter in the tech center. We had to scan our faces into the computer... then using Illustrator illustrate ourselves. This is my end result, mainly because I'm really tired and need some sleep. Being one of the most computer illiterate people on this planet, I'm actually pretty amazed I could do this. Over all time: Over 7 or 8 hours.

AHHHH! Real Monsters....

This is what happens when you stay up all night finishing your 2D project only to remember that you have a computer assignment due too. I'm still new to Adobe Illustrator, but from what I've learned so far I actually really enjoy the program. Our assignment was to create a self portrait using simple shapes and lines. And there are only two other people in the graphics lab... which is a nice change from the jam packed feeling it usually has.

For Computers we were given the assignment of creating 5 pictures using just text. It was my first time ever using Illustrator and I have to say it has given me a whole new appreciation for graphic designers. This was soooo time consuming. And at first really really frustrating, but as I started to realize what worked for me and what didn't I actually began to enjoy the process.
(The older graphic design majors in the graphics lab starring at me like I'm an idiot, not so much.)
